ARTS AND EDUCATION EXPERIENCE:
2008-Present ZEUM
- Educator at a Children's Art and Technology Museum.
- Creating age appropriate curriculum for ages 6-18.
- Working closely with Zeum Masters (an teen internship program),
- Implementing workshops, camps and special events.
- Working with youth to create Art, Animation movies, Music videos, Podcasts and other mixed-media.
2006-2008 The Purple Crayon Art Studio
- Head teacher in a children's art studio. Teaching students ages 2-12 hands on educational activities.
- Creating age appropriate curriculum with a focus on different tactile materials and processes. Implementing these activities in terms that all ages can understand and enjoy.
- Coordinating with 3 teachers and providing them with lesson plans and projects.
- Duties also include: Booking classes, enrollment, marketing at family events, and customer service.
2006-2008 The Contemporary Jewish Museum
- Completed 8 week training on tour leadership. Mastered techniques such as: Inquiry based questioning strategy, Group Management, Presentation skills, and thematic touring.
- Lead interactive, educational tours for audiences including: General Public, Developmentally disabled adults, School groups and Senior citizen groups.
- Designed hands on, exhibition related, gallery activities. Projects include Family ID albums and Museum pop-up art. Facilitated activities to intergenerational audiences at the Museums family day, community events and school tours.
- Other duties include: Assistance with the membership department, Gallery attendant and photographing special events.
2002-2003 WNYC's Radio Rookies
- Assistant producer of National Public Radio program. Worked with 30 inner city teens to create personal radio segments.
- Taught radio skills, including: recording, editing, script-writing, decision-making
- Mentored teens, and cultivated relationships. Counseled on personal problems, followed-up after program ended and monitored check-in with teachers and family.
2000 Volunteer for Operations Cross Roads Africa
- Volunteered as a farmer and construction worker to rebuild farms for women in rural areas to help them earn and save money.
- Taught photography to intergenerational groups from the families I stayed with.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
1999-Present KPOO Radio 89.5 FM San Francisco, CA
- Host of a weekly four-hour reggae, blues, jazz and hip-hop live radio show. Show includes live on-air interviews, ticket give aways, promotions for concerts and live events.
1998-2001 WYSO Radio 91.3 FM Yellow Springs, OH
- Hosted and produced fifteen 3-hour radio programs for Women in Music, a 25-year-old show with rotating female DJs.
2001- 2002 WNYC 93.9 FM New York, NY
- Newsroom Intern. Wrote news spots for newscasters, recorded remotes including Mayor Bloomberg and Hillary Clinton. Researched New York City based news issues.
2003- Present Sports Team Photo/ Catch The Moment
- Freelance photographer for sports events, including little league and professional teams
2003 Surface Magazine
- Assistant to the photography editor through the creation of the Avante Guardian issue
2005 Growing Families
- Freelance infant photographer. Photographed newborn babies in the nursery for hospital security and for products available to be ordered.
2005 Baby Center Magazine
- Worked in the Art Department with the photo director. Prepared and assisted at photo shoots for the third trimester issue.
2006 Corinthian Decorative painting
-Assistant to a faux finisher/ decorative painter. Managed the studio, mixed paints, color corrected, wrote correspondence letters, mass mailings and other daily scheduling in the studio and off-site.
EDUCATION:
MFA at the Academy of Art University 2005
- Major in Photography
- Thesis was based on experimental and historical photographic processes.
- Created a 17-piece installation of handmade wooden boxes framing translucent double exposed images. Thesis based in historical and experimental photographic processes.
Bachelor of Arts from Antioch College 2001
- Double Majored in radio and photography.
- Final thesis Women in Jazz included a photography show of musicians. The images were processed with experimental techniques onto music paper. The opening corresponded with a radio show on WYSO where I interviewed the featured musicians and played their music. I wrote, hosted and produced this program.
